Colin's new ride.
Colin stopped by today with the new ride he built. You'll see him cruising the 101 from Leucadia to work at Pizza Port. Digging the seat extension.

ASR Fall 2010
While some may be scratching their head, I happen to enjoy seeing the encroachment of motor racing on the surf/skate culture. I have been a huge fan of F1 for many years and during that time have watched bits of World Rally and MotoGP. It is fantastic for me to see all of these elements coming together.
Team Subaru USA had a small but nice static display on the main floor.
ASR is Back.
Melali at La Paloma
Went to see Melali at La Paloma Thursday night. The Melali Sessions band, including Jon Swift, Todd Hannigan, Fernando Apodaca, and Rob Machado, played the soundtrack live on stage as the movie played behind them. Swift is a great talent and when accompanied with accomplished musicians and great surfing the result is quite an experience.

Melali is here...
In the shop now @ $25 OR go see the movie at La Paloma August 12th.
Here is the "official" story:
While wandering through Indonesia filming the award-winning surf movie The Drifter, Rob Machado met up with various friends for surf sessions on the best waves the Islands had to offer.
Set across the vast Indonesian island chain, Melali: The Drifter Sessions features Rob Machado — one of the most stylish and skilled wave riders of our time. Melali returns to the fundamentals of surf cinematography by focusing on the surfing experience, the artful relationship between man and surf, and the sharing of this experience with good friends.
Spearheaded by Machado and director Taylor Steele (the godfather of modern surf film), this two-disc set contains two versions of the 35-minute surf film, an audio CD of the original score, and a short film documenting the recording of the soundtrack. Joining Rob at the finest surfing locales Indonesia has to offer is an eclectic and world-class cast of wave riders: Dane Reynolds, Kelly Slater, Kalani Robb, Shane Dorian, Dan Malloy, Mike Losness, Marlon Gerber, and Rizal Tanjung.

Sounds of Waves
Man I've neglected the blog. Sorry for that. We are having a DVD showing tonight, 7PM, at the shop. Snacks and drinks while they last. Bring a chair and hang with us this evening.
Sounds of Waves is a 3 year global surf odyssey filmed and directed by Luke Thorpe. This film brings together musician and surfer unlike any other. Great surfing and great music. What else is there?

Sector 9
When the waves are flat we skate. It's no secret that Sector 9 is the current board of choice. We have 25 completes in stock plus all the accessories. From the Joel Tudor mini to the Carbonite downhill missile we have your board.
When I skate with the kids to school in the morning I take the Tree Barrel. The Sidewinder trucks make short work of dodging kids and moms on the sidewalk. I have the Sandwedge at the shop for quick cruises to grab lunch or to check the surf.
There's always room in the garage for another skateboard.

Mike Slingerland Gun
This board is amazing. 9'6 Gun shaped by local Mike Slingerland. Mike started shaping in 1968 for Hansen's. He has been shaping under his own label in Encinitas for 35+ years. His skill and experience show in this board. If you plan to hit Mavericks when it's on, this board is for you. (It would also look good on the wall for those of us used to surfing smaller waves.)

Timothy Williams at the Eric Phleger Gallery
Check out Los Angeles based artist Timothy William' s showing Entitled “Relics from the Now”. The exhibition includes work produced from 1996-2010. The opening reception will be at Eric Phleger Gallery Thursday March 18, 2010 from 6 until 9 pm. The show will run through April 22, 2010.
Williams employs objects such as fire extinguishers, skulls, port holes and propellers from old ships, forgotten guitars, violins, pieces of sidewalk and bullet riddled surfboards and transforms them with paint, collage, photography, video, even torches and gunfire to an end that is nothing less than fantastic.
Michael Hammer, of the Hammer Museum, said of Williams’ work, “I appreciate the way his work looks old and mysterious, yet new and never seen before. I see his work as having that unique quality of staying power.”
Roger Herman describes Williams more simply having said,”He’s a hell of a talent.”
Meet the artist, see the show and be glad you did.

Breakers 8'8 Custom Single Fin
Jeff Grygera shaped the following 8'8 Breakers custom single fin for the shop. The color work was done by cutting a sponge and applying the colors individually. A very time consuming process for sure but the result was worth it. A nice change from the status quo. The board is 22 3/4 wide by 2 3/4 thick. Yours for $535!
